Jim Bybee has had a passion for music and the guitar for over 30 years now. His musical journeys have included many disciplines, from pop, rock, and country to blues, jazz, and classical music. Growing up and living near Los Angeles, CA gave Jim the opportunity to develop a career playing myriad live music gigs and recording sessions with many different musicians.
After playing the electric guitar and singing in ensembles for most of his career, the past two years have seen Jim focus exclusively on solo guitar performance. Using a steel-string acoustic guitar, Jim plays an idiom known as "fingerstyle guitar," a genre that incorporates his many musical influences into a single powerful blend. By combining the acoustic guitar with electronic effects and a looping sampler, Jim creates a virtual orchestra with a single instrument, evoking drama, beauty, and passion. His playing has been called "beautiful" and "superb," and he's often referred to as a "wizard" on the guitar.
Released in late 2006, his solo guitar debut CD "Woodshed" includes both original compositions and covers that have been greatly influential to him. Currently, Jim is in the studio working on a follow-up CD.
Recently relocated to the Pacific Northwest, Jim draws new inspiration from the beautiful surroundings and relaxed lifestyle. In addition to his guitar talents, Jim is also accomplished as a music producer, audio engineer, writer, and luthier.
